Workplace Giving
Small Contributions. Collective Impact. A Future of Hope.
Workplace giving is a meaningful way for employees and businesses to make a difference together.
At National MSA Research, we believe that community involvement, generosity and collaboration are essential to increasing awareness of Multiple System Atrophy (MSA) and supporting the search for better treatments and ultimately a cure.
Through workplace giving, individuals and organisations can contribute towards our charitable mission while creating opportunities for employees to support a cause that matters.
Whether through regular payroll donations, employer matching or workplace fundraising activities, every contribution is appreciated.
What Is Workplace Giving?
Workplace giving allows employees to support eligible charitable organisations through arrangements facilitated by their employer.
A common approach involves employees voluntarily choosing to donate a nominated amount from their pay.
The employer then forwards those donations to the selected charitable organisation.
Workplace giving can provide a convenient way for employees to make regular charitable contributions while helping businesses encourage community participation.
Participation is voluntary and depends on the arrangements offered by each employer.
Why Support National MSA Research?
Multiple System Atrophy is a rare and progressive neurological condition that affects movement, coordination and important automatic bodily functions.
For people living with MSA and their families, the condition can create significant physical, emotional and practical challenges.
There is currently no cure.
National MSA Research was established in October 2024 to raise awareness of this condition and support the long-term advancement of scientific research.
Your workplace’s involvement can help us continue pursuing these objectives and encourage greater public understanding of MSA.
How Workplace Giving Works
Workplace giving arrangements may differ between employers.
A typical arrangement involves the following steps.
Step 1 — Choose a Charity
An employer establishes or participates in a workplace giving program that supports eligible charitable organisations.
Employees may be able to nominate National MSA Research as their preferred charity, depending on the program’s arrangements.
Step 2 — Select Your Contribution
Participating employees choose an amount they wish to donate from their regular pay.
The contribution amount and frequency depend on the employer’s program and the employee’s preferences.
Step 3 — Payroll Donations
The employer deducts the agreed amount from the employee’s pay and arranges for the donation to be transferred to the charity.
Step 4 — Ongoing Support
Regular contributions can help provide charities with a more consistent source of funding.
Employees may be able to adjust or stop their contributions according to their employer’s program rules.
Employer-Matched Giving
Some businesses choose to increase the impact of workplace donations through matched giving.
Under an employer-matched giving arrangement, a business contributes an additional amount in recognition of donations made by its employees.
For example, an employer may choose to match employee donations dollar for dollar or contribute according to an approved company policy.
Matched giving is optional and depends on the employer’s participation and available arrangements.
National MSA Research welcomes enquiries from businesses interested in discussing charitable giving opportunities.
Workplace Fundraising Activities
Workplace support does not have to involve payroll donations.
Businesses and employees may also choose to organise fundraising activities.
Examples include:
- Workplace morning teas.
- Casual dress days.
- Team fundraising challenges.
- Charity trivia events.
- Employee fundraising campaigns.
- Community awareness activities.
- Corporate donation drives.
- Staff participation in approved charity events.
These activities can create opportunities for employees to work together while raising awareness of Multiple System Atrophy.
Fundraising activities conducted on behalf of National MSA Research may require prior approval and must comply with applicable fundraising requirements.
Benefits for Employees
Workplace giving can offer employees a convenient way to support a meaningful charitable cause.
Regular contributions may allow individuals to give smaller amounts over time rather than making a larger one-off donation.
Employees can also benefit from opportunities to learn about important community issues and participate in collective fundraising activities.
Where eligible, workplace donations may qualify for Australian income tax deductions.
Benefits for Businesses
Workplace giving provides businesses with opportunities to demonstrate community involvement and encourage employee participation in charitable activities.
It may also contribute towards an organisation’s corporate social responsibility objectives.
Businesses may choose to support workplace giving through payroll arrangements, employer matching, fundraising events or other approved charitable initiatives.
National MSA Research values relationships built on shared purpose, transparency and respect.
Tax-Deductible Workplace Donations
Rare Neurological Disease Research Ltd, trading as National MSA Research, is endorsed as a Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR).
Eligible donations of $2 or more may be tax deductible under Australian taxation law.
Under an eligible workplace giving arrangement, an employer may adjust the Pay As You Go (PAYG) tax withheld from an employee’s pay to reflect their charitable donations.
Employees generally still claim their eligible workplace donations as deductions when completing their income tax returns.
Workplace giving is different from a salary sacrifice arrangement, and the tax treatment may differ.
Employees should consult their employer’s payroll team or an appropriate taxation professional for advice relevant to their circumstances.
Starting Workplace Giving at Your Organisation
If your business or workplace is interested in supporting National MSA Research, we welcome your enquiry.
The process may depend on whether your organisation already operates a workplace giving program or wishes to establish one.
Your employer or payroll provider will need to confirm the available administration, reporting and payment arrangements.
National MSA Research can discuss appropriate donation arrangements and provide its registered charity and DGR details.
Please do not send personal payroll records or employee financial information through a general enquiry.
Our Commitment to Responsible Giving
National MSA Research recognises the importance of managing charitable contributions responsibly.
Donations received through approved workplace giving arrangements will be recorded and managed in accordance with our charitable purposes and applicable requirements.
Where contributions are made for a particular approved purpose, relevant conditions and restrictions will be considered.
Any research funding commitments will require separate organisational approval.
We aim to provide accurate information about our charitable activities and the use of funds.
Together, We Can Make a Difference
Every contribution helps build a stronger community around the fight against Multiple System Atrophy.
When employees and businesses come together in support of a shared charitable purpose, small individual actions can become meaningful collective support.
By participating in workplace giving, you can help National MSA Research continue raising awareness, encouraging collaboration and pursuing its long-term mission.
Your workplace can be part of the journey towards a future without MSA.
