1. Introduction
Thank you for choosing to support National MSA Research through your fundraising activities.
National MSA Research is an Australian registered charity dedicated to raising awareness and supporting scientific research into Multiple System Atrophy (MSA).
These Fundraising Terms & Conditions outline the responsibilities and expectations of individuals, community groups, businesses and organisations wishing to conduct fundraising activities in support of National MSA Research.
These conditions apply to fundraising activities authorised by National MSA Research, together with any additional conditions included in the applicable fundraising agreement or written approval.
2. Fundraising Approval
All individuals, groups and organisations wishing to conduct fundraising activities using the name of National MSA Research must obtain written approval before commencing.
To request approval, prospective fundraisers must complete the Fundraiser Registration process and provide relevant information about their proposed activity.
Approval may include an official Authority to Fundraise Letter or other written authorisation.
Submitting a registration form does not automatically authorise an individual or organisation to begin fundraising.
National MSA Research reserves the right to approve, decline or withdraw permission for fundraising activities where reasonably necessary.
3. Fundraiser Responsibilities
Approved fundraising organisers are responsible for planning and managing their activities safely, ethically and lawfully.
Organisers must:
- Conduct activities in a manner consistent with the values and objectives of National MSA Research.
- Follow applicable laws, regulations and permit requirements.
- Provide accurate information about the fundraising activity.
- Obtain appropriate permissions from venues, property owners and relevant authorities.
- Maintain appropriate financial records.
- Ensure participants and members of the public are treated respectfully.
- Notify National MSA Research of significant changes to an approved fundraising activity.
- Use fundraising proceeds only for their approved purpose.
Organisers must not represent themselves as employees, Directors or authorised agents of National MSA Research unless specifically authorised.
4. Financial Management
Fundraisers must manage all money collected in a responsible and transparent manner.
Accurate records must be maintained of funds received, approved expenditure and the final amount raised.
Fundraising organisers must use approved collection and payment arrangements and must not use fundraising money for personal purposes.
Expenses associated with a fundraising activity remain the responsibility of the organiser unless National MSA Research has expressly agreed otherwise in writing.
Any proposed deduction of expenses from fundraising proceeds must be approved and supported by appropriate records.
5. Transferring Fundraising Proceeds
Unless alternative arrangements have been agreed in writing, fundraising proceeds and the required financial summary must be provided to National MSA Research within 14 days of the conclusion of the activity.
The summary should identify the total amount raised, any approved expenses and the final amount transferred.
All proceeds must be transferred using payment arrangements approved by National MSA Research.
Organisers should retain appropriate records and receipts in accordance with applicable requirements.
6. Donations and Tax-Deductible Receipts
National MSA Research holds Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) endorsement.
Eligible donations may qualify for an Australian income tax deduction, subject to applicable taxation requirements.
Not all payments made during fundraising activities are tax-deductible gifts.
Payments for event tickets, raffle entries, auction purchases, merchandise or other goods and services generally do not qualify as ordinary tax-deductible gifts, although specific statutory exceptions may apply.
Official tax-deductible receipts may only be issued in accordance with applicable law and authorised organisational procedures.
Fundraising organisers must not independently issue tax-deductible receipts on behalf of National MSA Research without express authorisation.
7. Use of National MSA Research Branding
The National MSA Research name, logo, artwork and other branding remain the property of the organisation or their respective rights holders.
Fundraising organisers must obtain approval before using National MSA Research branding in promotional materials, merchandise, advertising, signage or online publications.
Approved fundraising activities should clearly identify their relationship with National MSA Research.
Unless otherwise authorised, community-organised events should be described as activities supporting National MSA Research rather than events operated directly by the charity.
Organisers must not suggest that National MSA Research is responsible for managing an independent fundraising activity unless this has been agreed.
8. Advertising, Promotion and Media
Fundraisers are encouraged to promote their approved activities through appropriate community channels.
Promotional information must be accurate, respectful and consistent with the purpose of the fundraising activity.
Any public statements made on behalf of National MSA Research, including official media releases, must receive prior approval.
Organisers should obtain appropriate permission before publishing photographs, personal stories or identifiable information about other individuals.
Special care must be taken when sharing information about children or people affected by MSA.
9. Permits, Licences and Insurance
Fundraising organisers are responsible for identifying and obtaining any permits, licences, permissions or approvals required for their activities, subject to arrangements agreed with National MSA Research.
Additional requirements may apply to activities involving raffles, gaming, auctions, alcohol, food preparation, public collections, road use or other regulated activities.
Organisers must consider appropriate insurance arrangements and should not assume that their activity is covered by National MSA Research’s insurance policies.
Written confirmation should be obtained where insurance coverage or organisational assistance is required.
10. Health, Safety and Accessibility
The safety and wellbeing of participants, volunteers and members of the public are important.
Fundraisers must take reasonable steps to identify and manage foreseeable risks associated with their activities.
This may include suitable venue arrangements, emergency procedures, accessibility considerations, supervision and appropriate equipment.
Activities involving physical challenges should be planned with consideration for participants’ abilities and relevant safety requirements.
11. Fundraising In Memory of a Loved One
National MSA Research welcomes appropriate fundraising activities organised in honour or memory of individuals affected by Multiple System Atrophy.
Organisers should ensure that any personal information, photographs or stories shared publicly have the appropriate permission.
Where a fundraising activity is connected with an existing Legacy Fund, the allocation of proceeds should be agreed with National MSA Research before the activity begins.
12. Sponsorship and Third-Party Support
Fundraising organisers may seek sponsorship or in-kind support from businesses and community organisations where appropriately authorised.
Organisers must not enter into contractual arrangements, promise sponsorship benefits or create financial obligations on behalf of National MSA Research without written approval.
Proposed sponsorship arrangements involving the charity’s name, logo or official recognition may require additional review.
13. Changes, Cancellation or Withdrawal of Approval
Fundraising organisers must inform National MSA Research if an approved activity is significantly changed, postponed or cancelled.
Where a fundraiser is cancelled, organisers must consult National MSA Research about the appropriate handling of donations, ticket payments and outstanding financial obligations.
Refunds and other payment matters must be managed in accordance with applicable law and the relevant transaction conditions.
National MSA Research may withdraw fundraising authorisation where an activity presents unacceptable risks, breaches applicable requirements or is inconsistent with the organisation’s charitable objectives.
If authorisation is withdrawn, the organiser must stop representing the activity as an authorised National MSA Research fundraiser.
14. Privacy and Personal Information
Fundraisers must handle personal information responsibly and in accordance with applicable privacy laws and approved organisational procedures.
Personal information collected for fundraising purposes must not be used for unrelated activities without an appropriate lawful basis.
Donor contact information must not be sold or used for unauthorised marketing.
Fundraisers should avoid collecting unnecessary sensitive information and must use appropriate methods for transferring approved records to National MSA Research.
15. Completion of the Fundraising Activity
At the conclusion of a fundraising activity, organisers are expected to finalise outstanding payments, provide the required financial information and acknowledge the contributions of supporters.
National MSA Research may request additional information where reasonably necessary for financial reporting, compliance or organisational records.
We appreciate the time, effort and generosity contributed by every approved fundraiser.
16. Separate Event and Program Conditions
These conditions apply to community-organised fundraising activities.
Events operated directly by National MSA Research, including trivia nights, gala events and other fundraising functions, may have separate ticketing and participation conditions.
Move4MSA activities may also have additional program-specific registration and participation conditions.
Where specific conditions apply, they will be made available through the relevant registration or approval process.
